Playing Ted McPain well requires a large bit of team work, some checking of the mini map, and a big sum of droid clearingHe is kinda squishy, but given the help of a teammate, he can be quite dangerous.
His air strike can be mixed with the abilities of other nauts which paralyze or severely slow down enemies, such as the abilities of Yoolip, Rae, and Sentry. This is when airstrike is most effective. You might not get a kill but you may get an assist, or in the worst case force the enemy to flee. You also should keep an eye on the minimap when you can afford to divert focus to it. As his airstrike goes through the map when you're on bottom lane (which is where you typically should be unless you buy the upgrade which allows the airstrike to pierce through all terrain up and down), you can manage to pick enemies who are running from a fight on top lane if you get good at positioning the strike. And of course there's droid clearing which is the most important thing of any naut. Your shotgun is very effective at clearing droids and can keep back a large push with the shotgun upgrade which increases knockback on shotgun shots.
Ted is quite squishy, so you are dependent on teammates to stay alive and push, especially early game. He is a harder naut to learn, but if you keep at it, you will eventually get good.I mostly use airstrike in the early game to help clear droids on both lanes. I usually upgrade AA damage to be even better at clearing droids. Mid to late game, you can melt turrets with AA dam upgrades. Airstrike is pretty precise, so practice will help you with placement.
I like to use it to area deny a little if I'm putting pressure on a low hp naut. I'll airstrike behind them so they can either flee into the strike, or come closer for a shotgun blast.Map awareness is also key. If you see an enemy naut fleeing from your teammates in another lane, you can sometimes hit them with an airstrike to finish them off.Stim stun is always a must buy for me, usually the 2nd or 3rd buy. It's so useful to:. stim stun a naut inside of an airstrike (+ AA dam shotgun makes short work of low hp nauts). disable naut abilities (frog nado, jimmy dash, rae snipe, etc).
easier escape for you, especially against fast chasers like ayla.Mid to late game, Ted really shines. He is a high damage dealer that can push turrets really well. You can make him less squishy with some hp upgrades, and lately I've even been doing the shield on stimpak.I'm in L2 from solo q play mostly. I play several nauts, but Ted is one of my favorites.
I also have previous vids on my twitch if you want to see. Just PM me if you want the link.
He is fairly vulnerable. You really have to beware of any stuns, snares, or slows. The most important thing to consistency land your shotgun. It actually has some decent range but can take awhile to get the feel of it. A few shotgun rounds can drain the health on most Nauts.Build wise I recommend buying Stun on Stim, autoattack dmg, Starstorm statue, and machine gun range.
These with some health upgrades should be your priority for the first half of the match. Snipe is also very strong but I recommend machine gun range for new players because it allows you to play safer and pick at droids from afar.Mostly you want to sit back and clear droids with your shotgun and machine gun. Throw down your airstrike to zone people out.
Spamming it around jumppads is a good way to deny area and deal easy damage. With practice it can be used to get the last hit on a retreating enemy.Your guns should be your main dmg output. Land your shotgun and you should be good.
Ideally you have a Leon, Froggy, or some character on your team that can chase people down that you have injured.I've mained Ted since he was released. If you have any further questions about items or tactics I am happy to elaborate more.

Alternate between your shotgun and machinegun.Ted McPain was one of the great heroes of the first AI Wars, a long time ago. He has led his squad of elite super soldiers, the Killer Koala’s, against many opponents and has been decorated as an outstanding soldier a hundred times over. His ultimate achievement, during the climax of the First AI Wars, was a solo operation onto the AI’s battle station Starstorm. This mission ended in Ted McPain single-handedly unhinging all of the station’s crucial power couplings, effectively making sure the station wouldn’t be completed before the end of the war.Ted McPain eventually died when he sacrificed himself to save the Sunny-Daisy Alien Orphanage from a band of bloodthirsty dinosaur zombies in 3021. Ted’s heroic deeds would never be forgotten. He lived on as he became the star of various video games: Ted McPain I through XVII, Ted McPain: Zombie Blast, Ted McPain vs. Evil Ted McPain and Ted McPain Unicorn Dance Karting. When Voltar The Omniscient learned of the violent dimwitted video game star, he brewed up a plan that would backfire horribly. He created the Materializotron XT8000 with which he wanted to bring back the war hero of old to be his personal assistant.
Extracting Ted McPain’s digital essence from his video games, Voltar managed to materialize a life-size flesh and blood version. The Ted McPain that appeared though was missing his pants for unknown reasons. Voltar waved the issue aside saying “Stop asking stupid questions! He looks fine to me.”.
